On this day in 1963, campus life at the University of North Carolina came to a standstill with the news of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Many recalled his October 1961 visit to UNC (see top photo). The Di-Phi Joint Senate passed a resolution recognizing the loss of the President, and sent a telegram to Jacqueline Kennedy and President Lyndon Johnson expressing their grief and sympathy.
